Help Managers Support Deaf Employees

Thick Green Straight Single Marker Line

Background

This project was inspired by an instructional design prompt found on godesignsomething.co.

As I was planning the training, I wanted to help managers identify how to support their employees by simulating some of the situations that a deaf employee might face when not given proper accommodations. As they decide how to best assist their fictional employee, they will become more aware of how they can assist their teams in real-life. The training ends with a summary and additional examples of supports that deaf or hard of hearing employees might need. In additon, I made a job aid to go along with the training that could also serve as a poster or flyer if desired.

Audience

Corporate Managers

Brief

You are supporting managers at your organization. May is global accessibility awareness month. While there aren't any specific complaints, your team wants to help managers be more inclusive and supportive of differently abled employees. As one part of this initiative, you want to give your mid-level managers some tools to better support their deaf employees in contributing to meetings and communicating with team members.

Managers are busy and this probably isn't at the top of their lists. Before you can introduce the tools to support, you need to help managers care about the issue.
